У то вријеме пак изиђе заповијест од ћесара Августа да се препише сав свијет.

And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.

Ово је био први пријепис за владања Киринова Сиријом.

This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria.

И пођоше сви да се препишу сваки у свој град.

So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.

Тада пође и Јосиф из Галилеје из града Назарета у Јудеју у град Давидов који се зваше Витлејем, јер он бијаше из дома и племена Давидова,

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,

Да се препише с Маријом, испрошеном за њега женом, која бјеше трудна.

to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.

И кад онамо бијаху, дође вријеме да она роди.

So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered.

И роди сина својега првенца, и пови га, и метну га у јасле; јер им не бијаше мјеста у гостионици.

And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

И бијаху пастири у ономе крају који чуваху ноћну стражу код стада својега.

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.

И гле, анђео Господњи стаде међу њима, и слава Господња обасја их; и уплашише се врло.

And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.

И рече им анђео: не бојте се; јер гле, јављам вам велику радост која ће бити свему народу.

Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.

Јер вам се данас роди спас, који је Христос Господ, у граду Давидову.

"For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

И ето вам знака: наћи ћете дијете повито гдје лежи у јаслима.

"And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger."

И уједанпут постаде с анђелом мноштво војника небескијех, који хваљаху Бога говорећи:

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men!"

И кад анђели отидоше од њих на небо, пастири говораху један другоме: хајдемо до Витлејема, да видимо то што се тамо догодило што нам каза Господ.

So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, "Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us."

И дођоше брзо, и нађоше Марију и Јосифа и дијете гдје лежи у јаслима.

And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.

А кад видјеше, казаше све што им је казано за то дијете.

Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child.

И сви који чуше дивише се томе што им казаше пастири.

And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

А Марија чуваше све ријечи ове и слагаше их у срцу својему.

But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.

И вратише се пастири славећи и хвалећи Бога за све што чуше и видјеше као што им би казано.

Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.

И кад се наврши осам дана да га обрежу, надјенуше му име Исус, као што је анђео рекао док се још није био ни заметнуо у утроби.

And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.

И кад дође вријеме да иду на молитву по закону Мојсијеву, донијеше га у Јерусалим да га метну пред Господа,

Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord

(Као што је написано у закону Господњему: да се свако дијете мушко које најприје отвори материцу посвети Господу;)

(as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord"),

И да принесу прилог, као што је речено у закону Господњему, двије грлице, или два голубића.

and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, "A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons."

И гле, бијаше у Јерусалиму човјек по имену Симеун, и тај човјек бјеше праведан и побожан, који чекаше утјехе Израиљеве, и Дух свети бијаше у њему.

And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

И њему бјеше свети Дух казао да неће видјети смрти док не види Христа Господњега.

And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ.

И каза му Дух те дође у цркву; и кад донесоше родитељи дијете Исуса да сврше за њега закон по обичају,

So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law,

И он га узе на руке своје, и хвали Бога и рече:

he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:

Сад отпушташ с миром слугу својега, Господе, по ријечи својој;

"Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, according to Your word;

Јер видјеше очи моје спасеније твоје,

for my eyes have seen Your salvation

Које си уготовио пред лицем свију народа,

which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,

Видјело, да обасја незнабошце, и славу народа твојега Израиља.

a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel."

И Јосиф и мати његова чуђаху се томе што се говораше за њега.

And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him.

И благослови их Симеун, и рече Марији матери његовој: гле, овај лежи да многе обори и подигне у Израиљу, и да буде знак против кога ће се говорити

Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, "Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against

(А и теби самој пробошће нож душу), да се открију мисли многијех срца.

(yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."

И бјеше Ана пророчица, кћи Фануилова, од кољена Асирова; она је остарјела, а седам је година живљела с мужем од дјевојаштва својега,

Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity;

И удова око осамдесет и четири године, која не одлажаше од цркве, и служаше Богу дан и ноћ постом и молитвама.

and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

И она у тај час дође, и хваљаше Господа и говораше за њега свима који чекаху спасенија у Јерусалиму.

And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

И кад свршише све по закону Господњему, вратише се у Галилеју у град свој Назарет.

So when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.

А дијете растијаше и јачаше у духу, и пуњаше се премудрости, и благодат Божија бјеше на њему.

And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.

И родитељи његови иђаху сваке године у Јерусалим о празнику пасхе.

His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover.

И кад му би дванаест година, дођоше они у Јерусалим по обичају празника;

And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast.

И кад дане проведоше и они се вратише, оста дијете Исус у Јерусалиму; и не знаде Јосиф и мати његова;

When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know it;

Него мислећи да је с друштвом, отидоше дан хода, и стадоше га тражити по родбини и по знанцима.

but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day's journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances.

И не нашавши га вратише се у Јерусалим да га траже.

So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him.

И послије три дана нађоше га у цркви гдје сједи међу учитељима, и слуша их, и пита их,

Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.

И сви који га слушаху дивљаху се његову разуму и одговорима.

And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.

И видјевши га зачудише се, и мати његова рече му: сине! шта учини нама тако? Ево отац твој и ја са страхом тражисмо те.

So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, "Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously."

И рече им: зашто сте ме тражили? Зар не знате да мени треба у оном бити што је оца мојега?

And He said to them, "Why is it that you sought Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?"

И они не разумјеше ријечи што им рече.

But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.

И сиђе с њима и дође у Назарет; и бијаше им послушан. И мати његова чуваше све ријечи ове у срцу својему.

Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart.

И Исус напредоваше у премудрости и у расту и у милости код Бога и код људи.

And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
