Ријечи Агура сина Јакејева; сабране ријечи тога човјека Итилу, Итилу и Укалу.

The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, his utterance. This man declared to Ithiel--to Ithiel and Ucal:

Ја сам луђи од свакога, и разума човјечијега нема у мене.

Surely I am more stupid than any man, and do not have the understanding of a man.

Нити сам учио мудрости нити знам светијех ствари.

I neither learned wisdom nor have knowledge of the Holy One.

Ко је изашао на небо и опет сишао? ко је скупио вјетар у прегршти своје? ко је свезао воде у плашт свој? ко је утврдио све крајеве земљи? како му је име? и како је име сину његову? знаш ли?

Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son's name, if you know?

Све су ријечи Божије чисте; он је штит онима који се уздају у њ.

Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.

Ништа не додаји к ријечима његовијем, да те не укори и не нађеш се лажа.

Do not add to His words, lest He reprove you, and you be found a liar.

За двоје молим те; немој ме се оглушити док сам жив:

Two things I request of You (Deprive me not before I die):

Таштину и ријеч лажну удаљи од мене; сиромаштва ни богатства не дај ми, храни ме хљебом по оброку мом,

remove falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches--feed me with the food You prescribe for me;

Да не бих наједавши се одрекао се тебе и рекао: ко је Господ? или осиромашивши да не бих крао и узалуд узимао име Бога својега.

Lest I be full and deny You, and say, "Who is the LORD?" Or lest I be poor and steal, and profane the name of my God.

Не опадај слуге господару његову, да те не би клео и ти био крив.

Do not malign a servant to his master, lest he curse you, and you be found guilty.

Има род који псује оца својега и не благосиља матере своје.

There is a generation that curses its father, and does not bless its mother.

Има род који мисли да је чист, а од свога кала није опран.

There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes, yet is not washed from its filthiness.

Има род који држи високо очи своје, и вјеђе му се дижу увис.

There is a generation--oh, how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are lifted up.

Има род којему су зуби мачеви и кутњаци ножеви, да прождире сиромахе са земље и убоге између људи.

There is a generation whose teeth are like swords, and whose fangs are like knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

Пијавица има двије кћери, које говоре: дај, дај. Има троје несито, и четврто никад не каже: доста:

The leech has two daughters, crying, "Give! Give!" There are three things that are never satisfied, four things never say, "It is enough":

Гроб, материца јалова, земља која не бива сита воде, и огањ, који не говори: доста.

The grave, the barren womb, the earth that is not satisfied with water, and the fire that never says, "It is enough."

Око које се руга оцу и неће да слуша матере, кљуваће га гаврани с потока и јести орлићи.

The eye that mocks his father, and scorns obedience to his mother, the ravens of the valley will pick it out, and the young eagles will eat it.

Троје ми је чудесно, и четвртога не разумијем:

There are three things which are too wonderful for me, yes, four which I do not understand:

Пут орлов у небо, пут змијин по стијени, пут лађин посред мора, и пут човјечији к дјевојци.

the way of an eagle in the air, the way of a serpent on a rock, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea, and the way of a man with a virgin.

Таки је пут курвин: једе, и убрише уста, па вели: нијесам учинила зла.

This is the way of an adulterous woman: she eats and wipes her mouth, and says, "I have done no wickedness."

Од трога се потреса земља, и четвртога не може поднијети:

For three things the earth is perturbed, yes, for four it cannot bear up:

Од слуге, кад постане цар, од безумника, кад се наједе хљеба.

for a servant when he reigns, a fool when he is filled with food,

Од пуштенице, кад се уда, од слушкиње кад наслиједи госпођу своју.

a hateful woman when she is married, and a maidservant who succeeds her mistress.

Четворо има малено на земљи, али мудрије од мудраца:

There are four things which are little on the earth, but they are exceedingly wise:

Мрави, који су слаб народ, али опет приправљају у љето себи храну;

the ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer;

Питоми зечеви, који су нејак народ, али опет у камену граде себи кућу;

the rock badgers are a feeble folk, yet they make their homes in the crags;

Скакавци, који немају цара, али опет иду сви јатом;

the locusts have no king, yet they all advance in ranks;

Паук, који рукама ради и у царским је дворима.

the spider skillfully grasps with its hands, and it is in kings' palaces.

Троје лијепо корача, и четврто лијепо ходи:

There are three things which are majestic in pace, yes, four which are stately in walk:

a lion, which is mighty among beasts and does not turn away from any;

Коњ опасан по бедрима или јарац, и цар на кога нико не устаје.

a greyhound, a male goat also, and a king whose troops are with him.

Ако си лудовао понесавши се или си зло мислио, метни руку на уста.

If you have been foolish in exalting yourself, or if you have devised evil, put your hand on your mouth.

Кад се разбија млијеко, излази масло; и ко јако нос утире, изгони крв; тако ко дражи на гњев, замеће свађу.

For as the churning of milk produces butter, and as wringing the nose produces blood, so the forcing of wrath produces strife.
